Which Tour, By The Time You Have
Matching the length to the day is most of the decision in Florence, because the city itself is small and the day trips are not. This table sorts by the time you can give, with the do-it-yourself route beside each and the reason one wins.
Two rules run through the table. Anything that leaves the city takes the whole day whatever the listing says — Siena is 75 km away and San Gimignano has no station of its own. And anything inside the walls can be done without a tour for the gate price plus a $2.30 (€2) bus ticket, because every sight in this guide is inside a 25-minute walk of the Duomo.

What The Platform Price Buys, And What The Gate Charges
Every listing on this page is one of four things, and the gate column in the table above tells you which. Read this section once and the 77 rows sort themselves.
A ticket, at or near the ticket price
About a third of the rows are entry only. The test is simple: if the listed figure sits within a few dollars of the gate, you are buying the reservation and the convenience of one checkout. The Uffizi reserved-entry card was listed at $18.53 against the museum's $29 door price in Q3 2026 — genuinely cheaper.
The Tiqets Uffizi slot matched the door at $29 (€25). The Bargello ticket at $21.72 sits $8 above a $14 (€12) gate that has no queue to skip, which is the clearest overpay on this page and one we would not make.
A ticket with a guide attached
Here the arithmetic is the guide's fee. The Accademia guided hour at $47.91 is $20 of ticket and fee plus about $24 of guide; the Medici Chapels guided visit at $61.28 is $16.50 of ticket and fee plus about $45. Whether that is worth it depends on the room.
In the Accademia and the Medici Chapels a guide changes what you see, because the sculpture carries no wall text worth the name. In the Uffizi, where every room is labelled and the audio guide costs almost nothing, it changes less.
Transport you cannot easily buy yourself
The day trips are the honest ones. No railway enters Chianti or the Val d'Orcia, San Gimignano is reached by changing buses at Poggibonsi, and a Cinque Terre day by train runs about six hours of rail for five on the coast. A coach seat at $51 to $85 for eleven or twelve hours is not an inflated ticket; it is the only version of that day that exists for someone without a car. Pisa and Lucca are the exceptions — both are regional-train towns from Santa Maria Novella, priced by distance band on the Trenitalia Tuscany tariff in force from 1 August 2026.
A thing that has no ticket at all
Cooking classes, the leather workshop, the Vespa days and the evening concert are products, not entries. There is no gate price to compare them against and no walk-up equivalent, so the only test is the review count: the pasta class carries 14,931 ratings at 4.9, which is more feedback than most Florence museums will ever collect.
If The Dates Are Gone
Only two things in Florence genuinely sell out, and neither of them is a tour. Everything else on this page has a walk-up route, and here is what it is, family by family.
- The Dome climb: slots are the scarce item, not the pass. If the Brunelleschi Pass calendar is empty, the $23 (€20) Giotto Pass puts you 414 steps up the bell tower instead, with the better view of the dome itself — and the Dome is closed for maintenance 16 to 20 November 2026 whatever any platform shows. - The Uffizi: $29 (€25) at the ticket office on the day, or $19 (€16) from 16:00 since 1 January 2026, which is the slot nobody books — the ticket page has the door-versus-platform arithmetic. - The Accademia: $23 (€20) plus the $4.70 (€4) fee, booked on the official shop; queue lengths collapse after 16:00, and the Bargello at $14 (€12) holds Donatello's David with no queue at all. - The Vasari Corridor: no walk-up exists. If the date is gone it is gone — the corridor page tracks the Friday evening walks running 3 July to 20 November 2026. - Hill towns: regional trains to Pisa and Lucca run all day from Santa Maria Novella, and the coach to Siena leaves from the busway; San Gimignano needs a change at Poggibonsi. - Chianti: hire a car or take the e-bike day; estates take walk-in tastings and price them themselves. - Food: the where to eat page names the twelve places a published guide names first, and Mercato Centrale upstairs runs 09:00 to 23:00 daily with no booking. - No alternative: the secret passages and the leather workshop are single-operator products.

What is the best tour to take in Florence?
For a first visit, the Uffizi small-group tour at $75.13: 90 minutes with a guide, then you stay inside on your own ticket. If your budget is the constraint, the Medici tales walk at $13.90 gives you two guided hours and enters nothing you would have paid for. Both sit on the time table with their do-it-yourself alternatives beside them.
Are tours in Florence worth the money?
It depends which of the four kinds you are buying, and what the platform price buys sorts them. Transport out of the city is worth it, because no train reaches Chianti or San Gimignano. A guide in a sculpture room is worth it. A skip-the-line ticket for a museum with no line — the Bargello, the Medici Chapels — is not.
Do guided tours in Florence run in English?
