Florence Duomo Tickets

Reduced fares on Duomo tickets in Florence work by age, not by student status, with one exception at the ticket office. The rules below come from the Opera del Duomo's own price list.

The student fare is the one people miss. Students of any age pay €5 for the Ghiberti Pass with a student card, and you can only get it at the ticket office at Piazza San Giovanni 7, not online and not on the Brunelleschi or Giotto passes. So a student who wants the dome pays the full fare.

EU-citizen reductions of the kind the Uffizi offers do not exist here. Free days: none stated on the portal. ICOM members enter the museum free, and that is the whole list.

A pass is valid 3 calendar days from the slot date, and calendar is the word to hold onto: a Brunelleschi Pass with a dome slot on Friday covers Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and expires Sunday at closing whether you used it or not. Buy for the first day you want to be on the square, not the last.

One monument on each pass carries the booked time. On the Brunelleschi Pass it is the dome, on the Giotto Pass the Bell Tower, on the Ghiberti Pass the crypt of Santa Reparata. You pick that time when you buy, and it is the only fixed appointment. The other monuments on the pass you enter at any time within the 3 days, during their hours, with one access per monument: leave the museum for lunch and you cannot come back in.

The Brunelleschi Pass includes the dome, Giotto's Bell Tower, the Baptistery, the Opera del Duomo Museum and Santa Reparata. The Giotto Pass is the same list without the dome. The Ghiberti Pass is the Baptistery, the museum and Santa Reparata; there is also an on-site variant sold only at the ticket office that covers the museum and Baptistery. Every pass gets you into the cathedral nave through the reserved entrance. Hours differ per monument and the hours for every monument of the complex are tabled on the attraction page.

Which pass for which visitor

• You want the view from the top and can manage 463 steps with no lift: the Brunelleschi Pass, which our dome-climb ticket includes.
• You want a climb with rest stops and a photo of the dome: Giotto Pass, tower slot. Note the 2026 restoration scaffolding on the tower.
• You are not climbing: Ghiberti Pass at €15, and the €5 student version at the office.
• You want someone to explain the doors and the Pietà before the climb: the guided Duomo and dome climb includes the pass.
• You are in Florence on a Sunday only: the nave is closed to visitors, the dome opens at 12:45, the Baptistery closes 13:30 on first Sundays. Book the dome for the afternoon.

Every card on this page holds a timed dome slot and includes the three-day pass to the other monuments. Three things come with it.

Availability: the operators hold their own allocation of dome slots, so the dome-climb ticket with the 3-day pass often still has mornings in a busy week. Cancellation: every card here cancels free up to 24 hours before, so dates that may still move are covered. Extras: the audio app, and on the guided listings a person who takes you through the museum and the Baptistery before the climb.

One phrase to decode. Listings say 'skip the ticket line', and that is accurate: you do not queue at Piazza San Giovanni 7. It does not mean skipping the security check at the dome door, which takes 15–30 minutes when slots bunch up. No official skip-the-line product exists, because the Opera del Duomo has no line to skip: every pass holder walks up at a booked time.

Every Duomo pass runs on the same rules, whoever sells it, and the traps are the same.

• There is no single-monument ticket and no official 'skip the line' ticket: the pass is the ticket.
• Check the day of week before you pick the dome time: the last slot is 18:45 Monday to Friday, 16:30 on Saturday, and Sunday runs 12:45–16:30.
• One name per ticket. Names and ID are checked at the dome. A ticket in your partner's name will not get you up.
• Children count: ages 7–14 on a reduced fare and under 7 on a free ticket, each as its own line. A child without a ticket is refused.
• The Opera's own portal caps an order at 10 tickets, so a large group lands on separate slots.
• Keep the PDF on your phone. There is nothing to collect at the office.

Before you press pay

An Opera pass cannot be changed or cancelled after payment, and there is no refund for a missed dome. 5 minutes of lateness is tolerated at the dome door, after which the slot lapses. Minors under 18 climb only with an adult. Luggage and large bags go to storage at Piazza Duomo 38/r first.

Dress code in the cathedral and the Baptistery: no bare shoulders, knees covered, no flip-flops. Our dome-climb tickets cancel free up to 24 hours before, which covers a group whose dates may still move. Once the dome slot is fixed, florence guided tours can fill the hours around it, since the best tours in florence often start near the cathedral.

A dome climb ticket is a Brunelleschi Pass with a slot, and nothing else sells the climb. The climb is 463 steps, no lift, up a staircase between the two shells of the dome; the Opera advises against it for heart or respiratory conditions, vertigo, claustrophobia and pregnancy, and under-18s climb only with an adult. Official time needed is about 45 minutes, plus the security check at the door.

Dome hours by day: Monday to Friday last slot 18:45, Saturday 8:15–16:30, Sunday and holidays 12:45–16:30. The dome is closed 16–20 November 2026 for maintenance; a Brunelleschi Pass for those dates is not sold.

Morning slots sell first, and in spring and autumn Saturday mornings go weeks ahead. The dome-climb ticket with the 3-day pass and the dome ticket with WhatsApp support are both €53, so book the one with the slot you want.

There is no separate bell tower ticket either. Giotto's Bell Tower is on the Giotto Pass at €20, where it carries your booked slot, and on every dome ticket we list, since the Brunelleschi Pass includes it. The climb is 414 steps, no lift, with three terraces to rest on, and it is open daily 8:15–18:45.

In 2026 the tower is under major restoration: the terraces stay open, views are partly reduced by scaffolding, and the Opera states this on the product page, so decide with that in mind. The tower is closed 9–13 November 2026. Ages 7–14 pay €7 on the Giotto Pass, under 7 climb free with an adult.

The cathedral, yes. You enter the nave of Santa Maria del Fiore without any ticket Monday to Saturday 10:15–15:45; on Sundays and religious celebrations it is closed to visitors. Everything else on the square is paid: dome, tower, Baptistery, museum and crypt come only with a pass.

Two things people hope for and do not get. The Firenzecard does not include the Duomo complex; the passes are absent from its museum list, so budget for them on top of the card. And free days: none stated on the official portal, unlike the state museums' first Sundays.

• Baptistery daily 8:30–19:30 (13:30 on first Sundays); museum daily 8:30–19:00, closed first Tuesday; crypt Monday to Saturday 10:15–16:00.

The Baptistery's vault mosaics are under restoration and not visible, which removes the main reason to go inside; the bronze doors are copies with the originals in the museum. And the Bell Tower restoration reduces the views from its terraces through 2026. Both facts are stated on the Opera's portal.

If your reason for the Giotto Pass was the Baptistery ceiling and the tower view, the Ghiberti Pass plus the museum, where the real doors and the Pietà are, gives you more for €15.

The Duomo pass covers one square. The two museums most people pair with it sell their own timed entries with their own rules: the Uffizi tickets, where a reserved entry is from €16, and the Accademia tickets, where a timed entry to Michelangelo's David is €28. Both are closed on Mondays, which is when the Duomo complex is open and quiet.

The office at Piazza San Giovanni 7 opens Monday to Saturday 8:00–19:15 and Sunday 10:15–17:45, and it is the only place for two things: the €5 student Ghiberti Pass and the on-site Ghiberti variant for the museum and Baptistery. Card and cash are both taken.

What the office cannot do is bend the rules. A slot bought at the counter is as fixed as one bought online, and the staff will not swap a dome time because the line took longer than expected. On a weekday in August the counter line is a half hour by 10:00, so arrive with your ticket already on your phone. For the dome, the dome ticket with WhatsApp support and the dome-climb ticket with the 3-day pass hold their own allocation.

What to bring to the door

• The ticket PDF on a phone or printed; there is no collection desk.
• ID for every named adult on a dome slot; the check is at the Porta della Mandorla, not at the office.
• A child's proof of age for the 7–14 and under-7 fares if asked.
• Nothing bigger than a daypack; luggage goes to Piazza Duomo 38/r first, and that costs time you do not have with a fixed slot.
• Shoulders and knees covered for the cathedral and the Baptistery; the tower and dome doors do not check clothing, the nave door does.

Children under 7 enter every monument free but still need a zero-priced ticket on the order, and under-18s climb the dome only with an adult on the same slot. Ages 7–14 pay a reduced fare on every pass, €7 on the Giotto and €5 on the Ghiberti. There is no family ticket and no EU youth fare of the kind the state museums offer, so a 16-year-old pays the adult fare.

The climb itself is the family question. 463 steps with no way to turn round means a child who freezes on the interior gallery has to be walked up, not down, and the Opera's own advice against claustrophobia is written with that passage in mind. Families who want the view with an escape route take the bell tower on the Giotto Pass: 414 steps, three terraces, and a landing every hundred steps where a small climber can sit.

Groups hit the 10 tickets per order cap on the Opera's portal; a party of twelve places two orders and lands two separate dome slots, which the system will not merge. For a guide, the guided dome climb with the museum tour runs at 12:00, 15:45 and 16:30 with headsets, which for a family of non-Italian speakers is the easier version of the day, and the guided Duomo and dome climb takes two hours.

Each of these ends the same way, with a pass that cannot be refunded. The dome tickets on this page cancel free up to 24 hours before, which is the only cure once the slot is bought.

• Buying the Giotto Pass for the dome. The name confuses everyone; Giotto is the tower, Brunelleschi is the dome, and no upgrade exists at the door.
• Booking the slot for the last day of a stay. The pass runs 3 calendar days from the slot date, so a dome on the departure morning leaves the other four monuments unused.
• Arriving at the ticket office instead of the Porta della Mandorla. The office is across the square; the dome queue is on the north side of the cathedral. Ten minutes lost there is twice the tolerance.
• Putting one name on four tickets. Names and ID are checked at the dome, and a family with a single named adult on every ticket is sent back to the portal.
• Trusting the November calendar. The dome is closed 16–20 November 2026 and the bell tower 9–13 November 2026; a trip that week needs the Ghiberti Pass and the museum, or a date change.
